The Next event no.12 and first updated roster!

If you’re looking to jump into Marvel Crisis Protocol, or just need to fill out your roster with some fresh recruits or supervillains, please check out our Sponsor Board in Brum!

So today there has been a bit of a change of plans – We were originally meant to be playing a Team event at Board in Brum, but due to some cancellations and drops outs, a few of the teams were left with odd numbers. So, the Tournament Organisers put it to a vote and decided that the event would instead be changed to a Singles tournament! Everyone seemed happy with this, and a couple more people actually jumped on board now that they didn’t have to worry about finding a team.

This means that right now I’ll be playing in my first tournament using the new rules for roster building and Crisis selection – As well as the small adjustment to the Infinity Gems. Which Crisis card you will play from either your Extracts or Secures is now determined randomly, we all get two extra Tactics cards and rather than taking up a character slot in your roster, Infinity Gems now staple to the person that is going to be using them. So this means I’ve gained two slots for Team tactics cards, and one slot for a character now that the Reality Gem is stapled to Corvus (As it should be!). For the first time ever this means that I’ll actually be showing up with ten models!

As it’s not been that long since we had the new rules updates, I thought I’d take a quick and easy solution to fill a couple of the gaps. This is in the form of core box Iron Man and Helios Laser Bombardment! Cheesy, I know! But for now it was a quick way for me to fill that character slot and one of the spare tactics cards slots. Iron Man himself makes a very solid Web Warrior, his basic attack giving him access to one of the few remaining size unlimited pushes. His slightly above average defence line of 4/3/3 and innate superpower, Invincible Iron Man, also means that he becomes quite tanky when he gets that Web Head reroll on defence!

Helios Laser Bombardment, as we all know, is pretty bonkers too. With characters in my roster like Moon Knight and Mystique, later on in the game I can have lots of stockpiled power ready to dump into a twenty plus dice HLB, which is always useful for finishing an unhealthy character off. I still had one more tactic card slot left, and figured I might as well take another restricted card, so I grabbed good old Patch Up from the core box – I’m not sure how often I’ll use it alongside Medpack, but the two combined make the Web Warriors even harder to shift. Healing damage on an expensive character with strong defensive attributes such as Corvus or Venom is always a really valuable option to have

Although as I mentioned there has been a slight change to how picking Crisis works, I’ve decided to keep all of mine the same. This is because I’m happy playing any of them into any matchup, so I haven’t really been effected that much by the change. Some people would argue that play Demons Downtown into an affiliation like Midnight Sons isn’t ideal – But it is still a great mission for me and I don’t feel it puts me at a huge disadvantage either way. Some people have also been discussing how we might see less of the five extract missions like Spider Infected or Cubes, but with the tools that I have in my roster I’m still more than happy playing either. The only swap I might consider any time soon is swapping out one of my secures, Mutant Madmen, for Intrusions Open Across the city instead. Until I puck up the Ancient One and Baron Mordo, Mutant Madmen will do just fine – I just like the idea of Venom teleporting through portals!

“So many SNACKS!”

So with the couple of new additions, my current roster looks like this. I still don’t think it’s perfect, and once there is a restock I’ll be swapping out either Iron Man or Mystique in favour of the Hood – I guess I’ll just have to see which of them pulls their weight!
