The Next event no.26!

It’s been quite a long time since I’ve done a Next event post, but I didn’t realise it had been nearly ten events! Needless to say, the Illuminati have been smashing out lots of events straight out of the new year, having one almost every weekend so far, and almost every weekend for the next few weeks too! So we’re going to be real busy! Today I’m just going to break down the changes to my Web Warrior roster since the start of the year.

Back way back when in January, we had the first double weekend of the year – With a Board in Brum Mashup on Saturday the 8th and Sanc on the 9th. I managed to go 4-0 at both events, so I don’t think there is necessarily anything wrong with the roster I was running, but more recently I’ve found having some wider options is better in the current tournament scene – And it is nice to occasionally change things up a little.
The roster that I was running before was
Characters
Miles Morales (L), Ghost Spider, Venom, Black Cat, Moon Knight, Toad, Hood, Iron Man, Proxima Midnight and Corvus Glaive with the Reality Gem
Team Tactic cards
All Webbed Up, Advanced R&D, Medpack, Climbing Gear, Lethal Protector, Mission Objective, Marked for Death, Web Barrier, Patch Up and Helios Laser Bombardment
Extract crisis cards
Spider Infected invade Manhattan! – 17
Skrulls Infiltrate World Leadership – 17
Fear Grips World as Worthy Terrorise Citizens – 18
Secure crisis cards
Riots spark over Extremis 3.0 – 17
Portals overrun City with Spider People – 18
Mutant Madman turns city centre into Lethal Amusement park! – 18
I think that that roster is still very brutal, and can go 4-0 if you’ve had the games to know how it works. Since the start of me getting into Marvel, way back when it would of been the Next Event no.1!, I’ve been running the power duo that is Corvus Reality and Proxima Midnight. Since then lots has changed – The surge in super wide teams like Avengers, Guardians and really means that taking a Five threat character can leave you an Activation down. In some cases now, certain teams can go seven wide at Seventeen threat, so being able to keep up with the number of models on the board feels quite important.

So the new Roster that I’ve been playing around with is Wider Web Heads – Only one four threat, and no one else higher than a three. This shows my hand a little during roster building, as you know you’re not going to come up against a skewed team with a couple of high threats. Corvus and Proxima will definitely return at some point, as I’m sure the ‘Meta’ will shift and change. The characters that I’ve changed in give me some more control and some reach, as well as different options for different match ups.
All of the changes will be in Bold Italics
Characters
Miles Morales (L), Ghost Spider, Venom, Black Cat, Moon Knight, Toad, Hood, Bullseye, Captain Sam Wilson and Gambit
Team Tactic cards
All Webbed Up, Advanced R&D, Medpack, Climbing Gear, Lethal Protector, Mission Objective, Patch Up, Marked for Death, Sacrifice and Dark Past
Extract crisis cards
Montesi Formula Found! – 17
Skrulls Infiltrate World Leadership – 17
Fear Grips World as Worthy Terrorize Citizens – 18
Secure crisis cards
Riots spark over Extremis 3.0 – 17
Portals overrun City with Spider People – 18
Mutant Madman turns city centre into Lethal Amusement park! – 18
There aren’t that many changes, but it does open up lots of new builds and different plays. Of the new releases, Gambit is my personal favourite – He seems grossly underrated by a lot of people and 52 Card Pick Up is a brutal attack. Dark Past is a phenomenal tactics card, as it doesn’t just give friendly characters stealth whilst they are within range three of Gambit – They get it for the turn. So you can see hello to everyone’s favourite Symbiote walking around with cover!

Captain Sam and Bullseye have joined the Web Head ranks, both for slightly different reasons. At higher threats like nineteen and twenty, Bullseye means I can now go a whopping seven wide, and having the ability to do guaranteed damage is huge.
Sam on the other hands brings some great control. After my final against Quinn and my first time playing the new Scoundrels mission, Sams push is super powerful to push people off of the multiple extracts. Not only that, but the fact that his attacks ignore cover is great. Him and Bullseye are great at shutting down the benefits anyone gets from the free cover.
I’ve added in Sacrifice as a pseudo Lethal Protector, so that I still have some control for who hits who. I’m not sure how much I’ll be using it, but I’ve got good use out of it for Spider Foes.

The last swap was to add in Montesi instead of Spider Infected. It’s easier to control the boar d and stops anyone from running away with lots of points. We’ll see how the roster gets on, as the first round starts shortly!
